Maruti Suzuki, one of India's leading car manufacturers, recently launched the Jimny at the Auto Expo 2023, and it has already accumulated over 9,000 bookings within just 10 days of its launch. The Jimny is a five-door gypsy successor that is set to be launched in India later this year.

Design and Interior

The Jimny carries almost the same interior as the three-door version, featuring the same dashboard with rectangular clocks, and the same Suzuki steering wheel that is visible across many of the models. However, while the international model has its touchscreen integrated into the dashboard, the Indian version will have a freestanding nine-inch unit that runs on Maruti Suzuki's latest smart play Pro Plus system.

One of the major USPs of the five-door Jimny is the addition of two more doors that allow easy access to the rear seat. Additionally, features such as a center armrest, cup holders in both doors, and foldable rear seats for additional cargo space are expected. Given the Jimny's tall roofline, it is likely to have a significant amount of storage space inside.

Engine and Transmission

The Jimny will be powered by the family's 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 134Nm of torque. It will be available in both a five-speed manual and a four-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The SUV will be offered in Zeta and Alpha variants and will come equipped with Maruti's All Grip 4x4 drivetrain as standard.

Price and Competition

The booking amount for the Jimny is Rs 25,000, and deliveries are expected to begin in the coming months. It is expected to be priced between Rs 12-14 lakh, which puts it in competition with cars such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, and the mid-to-entry-level versions of the Mahindra car.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

In addition to the Jimny, Maruti Suzuki also launched the Fronx at the Auto Expo 2023. The Fronx shares its underpinnings with the Baleno and measures just under four meters. It takes on an SUV course with a sloping roofline, roof rails, and chunky plastic cladding, lending it a rugged appearance.

The Fronx will be available in two engine options - a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol that produces 99bhp and 148Nm torque, and a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated mill that develops 88bhp and 113Nm. Both options will be paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, but the turbo-petrol engine will also come with an AMT unit while the naturally aspirated engine will be offered with a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

It is difficult to say exactly how the market will look for Maruti Suzuki's Jimny and Fronx as they have not yet been officially launched in India. However, based on the initial response it is expected that the market for these models will be positive.

The Jimny's unique five-door design and advanced features such as a center armrest and foldable rear seats for additional cargo space are likely to appeal to consumers looking for a versatile and practical SUV. The Fronx, on the other hand, with its rugged appearance and two engine options, may appeal to consumers looking for a sportier and more dynamic vehicle. Additionally, both models' pricing, when officially announced, will also play a major role in determining their market performance as they will be competing with other SUV models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and the Mahindra car.

Overall, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Fronx are set to bring a new level of excitement to the Indian car market with their unique designs and advanced features. Stay tuned for more updates on their official launch and pricing.
